Summary
The Ventura County Sheriff's Department have added Wheeler Gorge and Matilija areas off of Highway 33 to the evacuation area.
The following temporary shelters have continued to be available and staffed by the Red Cross:
• Fillmore - Veterans Memorial Building at 511 Second Street.
• Santa Paula – Santa Paula Community Center at 530 W. Main Street.
• Ojai – Nordhoff High School at 1401 Maricopa Highway.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for late Saturday night through Monday evening for gusty winds and very low relative humidities.
Winds pushed the fire to the South Soutwest today. Crews continue to improve lines on the Southeast and Northwest. This evening engines and crews will be stationed in areas South of the fire. Stuctural protection groups will be in place in the event the fire threatens any communities.
Motorists should use caution when traveling Interstate I-5 corridor due to potential smoke and fire traffic.
Forest Service investigators have determined that the Day Fire is human-caused, and that it resulted from a member of the public burning a small amount of material within the Los Padres National Forest. The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing and potential suspects and witnesses are being interviewed.
Out of concern for public and firefighter safety, an emergency fire closure has been imposed in the general area of the Day Fire. The closures include:
•The eastern half of Sespe Wilderness and adjacent lands in Los Padres National Forest and Angeles National Forest lands west of Interstate 5 and south of Hardluck Road
•Pyramind Lake Recreation Area and Oak Flat area
•Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area
•Gold Hill Road
•Smokey Bear Road at Interstate 5.

Fire Behavior
At 1730 hours a strong Santa Ana condition aligned with topography causing the fire to make a major move on the west perimeter. A major fire front pushed to the west, exhibiting extreme fire behavior with spotting up to 1 mile ahead of the front. The fire moved 11 miles , burning over 50,000 acres.
Today's Significant Events
Due to high winds and safety concerns, structure protection plans were implemented in the areas affected by the fire front that developed at 1730 hours. Potential closure notifications continued in the communities of Ojai and Fillmore. Equipment and personnel were positioned in the communities of Ojai and Fillmore for structure protection, if needed.

Patrol along the I-5 corridor and mop up in the Oak Flats and Rawhide Ranch area. Improve line from Whitaker Peak to Piru Creek. Reassess and prepare for contingency on the southern perimeter and construct line as conditions permit. Improve existing fire access from Piru to Fillmore. Construct line on the N/W perimeter. Check on the Del Valle, Piru, Santa Paula. Fillmore and Ojai areas using the structure protection plan. Implement evacuations of residents and animals in immediate threat of approaching fire in affected communities.
Projected Movement
With Santa Ana winds and topography in alignment,the fire has spread rapidly and the potential for extreme fire growth continues today. Northeast winds will push the fire West with upslope movement. AS winds subside, upslope moves will continue.
